ALT catalizeaza transferul gruparii amino în timpul transformarii aminoacizilor si alfa-cetoacizilor. Acest proces este activat de piridoxal fosfat. Enzima din ser provine în principal din ficat ?i rinichi. Activitatea enzimei serice creste în diverse boli hepatice, inclusiv hepatita.
