Anafranil este utilizat în tratamentul depresiei şi tulburărilor afective. Alte afecţiuni ce pot fi tratate cu Anafranil sunt obsesiile, stări de panică şi fobii (frică iraţională), afecţiuni dureroase cronice şi slăbiciune musculară (cataplexie) asociată cu episoade repetate de somnolenţă extremă (narcolepsie) la adulţi. Anafranil este utilizat pentru a trata obsesiile din cadrul tulburării obsesiv-compulsive şi enurezisul nocturn la copiii cu vârsta de peste 6 ani.
