Tratamentul durerilor acute: dureri post-operatorii; edem pulmonar acut; infarct miocardic (cu prudenţă): indicaţie relativă (efectele hemodinamice sunt favorabile, dar efectele hipotensoare pot fi nocive); fracturi costale, pneumotorax sub tensiune, infarct pulmonar, anevrism de aortă: cazuri în care acţiunea analgezică şi cea antitusivă sunt necesare; Tratamentul durerilor cronice (în special cele neoplazice). Se utilizează în special la adult şi excepţional la copii (3 - 15 ani), în cazuri de extremă necesitate.
